Dr Annecy Lax is Dean of Partnerships (Education) and Senior Lecturer at the University of Essex, specializing in applied theatre and performance ethics. Her research explores trauma, protest, and representations of displacement through performance. Awarded the Faculty Research Champion (2019) and Supervisor of the Year (2020), she co-led AHRC-funded projects on mental health interventions and global theatre exchanges.
Her publications investigate ethical dimensions of testimony in performance, cultural resistance, and arts-based activism. Lax continues creative work with ice&fire theatre and Amnesty International, developing installations and films on human rights themes.
