Professor Anne ter Wal is a Full Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at Imperial College Business School, specializing in the role of networks in innovation and entrepreneurship. She leads the EU-funded 'Networking for Innovation' project, investigating how networks facilitate business and innovation success. Her research also explores creativity management, including the role of 'bootlegging' and deviant creativity in driving innovation.
Previously held roles include Associate Professor (2017–2024), Senior Researcher at ETH Zurich (2016–2019), and various academic positions at Imperial College London since 2009. She earned her PhD in Economic Geography from Utrecht University (2005–2009).
She serves as Associate Editor at the Academy of Management Journal and on editorial boards of Administrative Science Quarterly and Research Policy. Her research integrates geography, management, and innovation studies, addressing challenges in knowledge transfer and network-driven innovation.
