Professor Anne Winding is a faculty member in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Aarhus University, specializing in Microbial Ecology. She maintains dual affiliations with the DCE - Danish Centre for Environment and Energy and DCA - National Centre for Food and Agriculture, focusing on soil ecosystem dynamics and agricultural environmental impacts.
Her research spans microbial ecology, soil science, and environmental monitoring with particular expertise in biochar-soil interactions, nitrogen cycling, and eDNA applications. She investigates how agricultural practices—including nitrification inhibitors and acidified slurry—affect soil microbiome structure, extracellular enzyme activity, and ecosystem services through long-term field experiments and molecular techniques.
Professor Winding currently leads multiple significant research initiatives including SkyClean Scale-Up (2022-2025) targeting greenhouse gas reduction, the eDNA Center for environmental monitoring, and EUdaphobase (2019-2024) for European soil biodiversity assessment. Her work receives substantial grant funding with projects extending through 2025.
She heads the eDNA Center research group which develops and applies molecular tools for soil biodiversity monitoring, maintaining strong connections with national environmental agencies and European research networks. The lab emphasizes methodological innovation in soil microbial analysis and practical applications for sustainable agriculture.
