Anne Williams is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University. She holds a PhD in Nutritional Biology from the University of California, Davis (2015), an MPH in Public Health from UC Davis (2010), and a BS in Aquatic and Fishery Science from the University of Washington (2003).
Her research focuses on optimizing nutritional assessment methodologies, particularly improving maternal nutrition and anemia reduction strategies. Key areas include evaluating biomarkers for iron deficiency, analyzing the impact of water/sanitation interventions on nutritional outcomes, and investigating the role of inflammation in micronutrient status assessment. She is a core contributor to the BRINDA project, a multinational initiative refining anemia diagnostic criteria and inflammation adjustment methods.
Her work integrates population-based survey data to address global health challenges, with a focus on maternal and child health in low-resource settings. Recent studies explore trends in dietary patterns (e.g., alternative milk consumption shifts in the US), the double burden of malnutrition, and the interplay between climate and health.
Her publications emphasize methodological advancements in nutritional epidemiology, including hemoglobin cutoff re-evaluation, vitamin A biomarkers, and the design of culturally appropriate nutrition interventions. Notable contributions include guidelines for adjusting micronutrient biomarkers for inflammation and analyses linking food security to diet quality among SNAP recipients.
Her research has informed global health policy through evidence-based strategies, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Collaborations span academic institutions, NGOs, and governmental agencies to advance scalable nutrition interventions.
