Anne Trépanier is a Professor at Carleton University's School of Canadian Studies within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a cross-appointment with the Department of French and maintains collaborative relationships with Migration and Diaspora Studies and the History Department. As a Carleton teaching fellow, she received the International teaching award D2L in 2019.
Her academic journey includes a BA from Laval University, MA from McGill University, another MA from the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences in Paris, France, a Ph.D. from Laval University, and postdoctoral work at the University of Ottawa. She is an active member of the Association Internationale des Études Québécoises and serves as an affiliated researcher at the Center for the Study of French Canadian Civilization at the University of Ottawa.
Specializing in historiography, Trépanier's research centers on sense of belonging, national representations, identity narratives, and textual archaeology. Her current work critically examines how Canadian and Quebec histories are represented through theater and museum exhibitions. She serves as historian for the play 'L'empire du castor' and organizes 'Ça Jase en Tiguidou,' an annual Francophone literary festival in Rome.
Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on Canadian and Quebec historical narratives, with her 2024 book 'From Hydra to Beaver' winning multiple prestigious awards. Her scholarly output spans interdisciplinary fields connecting history, cultural studies, and national identity formation, with particular attention to how historical narratives shape contemporary understandings of national identity.

Trépanier actively engages in public history projects and academic conferences. For the 2025-2026 academic year, she will teach 'From Written to Screen; From Theater to Cinema' (FREN 3812), 'Advanced research in Canadian Studies' (CDNS 5001), and serve as a guest speaker on the Camino de Santiago for Saint-Paul University. She also hosts literary interview podcasts in French featuring prominent authors, focusing on Indigenous voices and migration narratives.
