Anne-Sofie Ahm is Assistant Professor in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria, specializing in isotope geochemistry, paleo seawater chemistry, and carbonate diagenesis. She investigates the co-evolution of climate and life during major Earth transitions including the Great Oxidation Event and Snowball Earth episodes using isotopic systems and numerical modeling.
Her research program includes projects on: carbonate diagenesis quantification, Neoproterozoic carbon isotope excursions, Archean seawater chemistry reconstruction, kinetic isotope effects in restricted environments, and weathering impacts on redox proxies. She leads the Earth History Research Group with active fieldwork and laboratory analyses.
Recent articles focus on isotopic reconstructions of ancient seawater, diagenetic processes in carbonate systems, and paleoenvironmental controls during critical Earth history transitions. Research demonstrates strong emphasis on Cryogenian-Ediacaran systems, carbonate geochemistry, and proxy development.
She maintains active collaborations through the Sedimentary Geochemistry and Paleoenvironments Project and mentors graduate students including Daniel Garduño (PhD candidate), Maya Thompson (BSc Honours), and Noa Hardcastle (BSc Honours).
Dr. Ahm is committed to equity and diversity in geosciences, incorporating indigenous territorial acknowledgments and anti-racist pedagogy in teaching. She leads field expeditions to Canada, USA, Oman, and Mongolia for sample collection.
