Anne Sarah Rubin is a Professor of History at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where she has taught since Fall 2000. She specializes in the American Civil War, U.S. South, and nineteenth-century America, and previously served as Associate Director of UMBC's Imaging Research Center (2017-2020) and Lipitz Professor of the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (2016-2017).
Her research centers on Confederate nationalism, Sherman's March memory, and digital history methodologies, including co-creation of the award-winning Valley of the Shadow CD-ROM and www.shermansmarch.org. Current work examines food and famine in the Civil War-era South, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to historical trauma and cultural memory.
Rubin's publications reveal consistent focus on Civil War legacy through works like A Shattered Nation and Through the Heart of Dixie, demonstrating evolution from traditional monographs to digital scholarship and edited primary source collections.
