Prof. Anne Ruth Mackor is a Professor of Philosophy of Law at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Law. Her expertise spans legal epistemology, professional ethics in legal and scientific contexts, and models of proof in criminal law. She holds an honorary doctorate from Lund University (2020) for her work on legal proof. Mackor chairs key ethics committees like the Review Committee Science and Ethics (CWB) and the Committee Ethical Assessment Research (CETOR) at Groningen. She also serves as editor of Rechtsgeleerd Magazijn Themis and is a member of ALLEA's Science and Ethics Working Group.
Her research focuses on preventing miscarriages of justice through methodological innovations in evidence evaluation. Recent projects include integrating Bayesian and narrative approaches to legal proof, funded by NWO. She actively participates in international academic networks across Europe and teaches courses on legal philosophy, scientific integrity, and forensic evidence.
Mackor's contributions to legal ethics and judicial training have been widely recognized. Her work bridges philosophy, law, and empirical research, addressing challenges like probabilistic fallacies in court and the role of narrative reasoning in legal decision-making.
