Professor Anne Rolland-Boulestreau holds a Professorship in Modern History at the University of Angers (UCO), within the Faculty of Humanities. She earned her HDR (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches) in 2018 at the University of Clermont-Auvergne and completed her doctoral studies in Modern History at the University of Nantes in 1999. Her research focuses on the French Revolution, particularly the Vendée Wars, counter-revolutionary movements, and post-conflict reconstruction. She explores themes such as civil war dynamics, socio-economic structures of the Ancien Régime, and historical memory through microhistories and anthropological approaches.
Her academic contributions include organizing international conferences on civil wars, religious conflicts, and memory studies. She has authored monographs like Les colonnes infernales (2015) and Guerre et paix en Vendée (2019), and co-edited volumes on historical methodologies. Her recent work examines the memory of the Vendée conflict in the 19th century and the role of exceptional justice during the Revolution.
Récent research activities include chairing conferences on civil war violence and participating in collaborative projects like the ANR-funded ACTAPOL dictionary of Conventionnels. She actively contributes to public history through exhibitions like Un monument de mémoire: Bonchamps par David d’Angers and public lectures at museums and universities.
