Dr. Anne Metje van Genderen is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Pharmacology, Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University. Her research focuses on engineering in vitro kidney models to study disease mechanisms and develop regenerative therapies, particularly using biofabrication, organoids, and biomaterials to guide kidney tissue maturation.
- PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2023), Utrecht University.
- Postdoc in the VHP4Safety consortium, studying drug-induced nephrotoxicity in kidney organoids.
- Principal Investigator (PI) in the ORGESTRA MSCA Network (Horizon Grant 101120108).
Her recent publications highlight advancements in melt electrowriting, hydrogel shrinking, and stem cell-derived organoids for kidney and intestine disease modeling. Awards include the Materials Driven Regeneration Young Talent Incentive grant.
- Co-promotor for PhD candidates Jim Koldenhof, Ann-Engelke Timm, and Lena Heer.
- Collaborates with institutions like Harvard Medical School (Dr. Yu Shrike Zhang) and contributes to the Utrecht Advanced In Vitro Models Hub.
