معرفی
Anne-Marie CHENY is a Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Le Havre and Head of the Le Havre center of the École Supérieure du Professorat et de l'Éducation (É.SPÉ.) since 2017. Her academic work focuses on Byzantine studies and 17th-century intellectual history, particularly the role of scholars like Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc in shaping European knowledge systems.
Her research explores how Byzantium was integrated into early modern European scholarship, challenging traditional narratives that position Byzantine studies as a product of Louis XIV's cultural policies. She has published extensively on the development of Byzantine studies in Europe, the history of knowledge, and the Republic of Letters.
CHENY teaches courses in political history, public uses of history, and teacher training programs (MEEF Master). Her recent works include The Circle of Byzantinists (2024) and A Byzantine Library (2015), with ongoing projects examining the conceptualization of the Byzantine Empire from the 15th to 19th centuries.
Her scholarly contributions include analyses of manuscript collections, epistolary networks, and the circulation of ideas in the 17th century. She has presented at international conferences such as 'Making and Unmaking Knowledge' (Geneva, 2020) and 'Letters, Pens and Brushes' (Limoges, 2019).
