Anne MacMaster is Professor of English and E. B. Stewart Professor of Language and Literature at Millsaps College. She teaches diverse courses in English and American literature, including specialized studies on authors like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Toni Morrison, as well as interdisciplinary explorations of modernism, novel history, and film adaptations. Her curriculum also encompasses foundational Women’s and Gender Studies courses examining gender and sexuality through theoretical frameworks.
Her research focuses on three interconnected domains: the evolution of modernist literature across Anglo-European traditions; structural developments in the novel from the 19th century to contemporary works; and the artistic translation of literary texts to cinematic media. This interdisciplinary approach informs courses such as Frankenstein: Origins and Adaptations and Vampires on Page, Stage, and Screen.
Professor MacMaster has received significant recognition for pedagogical excellence, including the Mississippi Humanities Council’s 2015 Teacher of the Year Award and the 2011 Arts & Letters Division Teaching Excellence Award.
