Anne M Rademacher is a Professor of Environmental Studies at New York University (NYU) within the Arts & Science division. She holds a Ph.D. (2005) and M.E.S. (1998) from Yale University, and a B.A. (1992) in History from Carleton College. Her research focuses on urban ecology, political ecology, and environmental ethnography, particularly in South Asia. She co-convenes the Ecologies of Urbanism Network and founded NYU’s Urban Greening Lab.
Her notable works include Death and Life of Nature in Asian Cities (2021) and Building Green: Environmental Architects and the Struggle for Sustainability in Mumbai (2017). Her research examines urban environmental transformations, including riverscapes, housing rights, open spaces, and sustainable architecture.
Recent publications (2018–2022) emphasize socio-ecological dynamics, co-production frameworks, and interdisciplinary approaches to urban ecosystems. She collaborates extensively with international researchers and practitioners to address urban sustainability challenges.
Rademacher’s work bridges science and society, integrating ecological knowledge with cultural practices in cities like Kathmandu, Mumbai, and across Asia. Her lab and networks foster global dialogue on equitable urban environmental policies.
