Anne L Calof is a Professor in the Department of Anatomy & Neurobiology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), and holds an Adjunct Professor position at the Neurobiology and Cognitive Science Center, National Taiwan University. Her research focuses on developmental biology, genetics, and cohesin complex dysfunction in diseases like Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS). She is affiliated with UCI's Center for Complex Biological Systems and has contributed to studies on gene expression, embryonic development, and molecular mechanisms underlying congenital defects.
Her work integrates mouse models, single-cell RNA sequencing, and genetic analysis to explore how cohesin mutations disrupt cell differentiation and organ formation. Key collaborations include projects with Arthur D. Lander and teams investigating Nipbl and Wapl gene roles in developmental disorders. She has authored influential papers on cohesinopathies, neural crest cell biology, and morphogenetic processes.
Calof’s research also addresses translational applications, such as identifying therapeutic targets for CdLS and understanding regenerative mechanisms in neural tissues. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges developmental genetics, systems biology, and clinical insights.
