Anne Jordhus-Lier

Anne Jordhus-Lier is an Associate Professor at the University of Inland Norway, affiliated with the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies within the Faculty of Teacher Education and Pedagogy. Her work focuses on the sociology of music education, music teacher identity, and discourse theory. She holds a PhD from the Norwegian Academy of Music and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Oslo and NMH.

Her research is anchored in the DYNAMUS project (Research Council of Norway-funded), exploring musical upbringing and schooling dynamics in Norway. She has organized major conferences like the 2021 ISSME and 2025 NNRME events, and serves on boards for the Norwegian Forum for Research in Music Education (FoMuP) and the Nordic Network for Research in Music Education.

Jordhus-Lier’s publications span journals like International Journal of Music Education, Music Education Research, and Research Studies in Music Education, with a focus on discourse analysis and institutional adaptation in music education systems. Her recent work addresses classed approaches to musical parenting, repertoire selection, and teacher identity negotiations in Norwegian arts schools.
