Anne Grüne is a Senior Lecturer and Research Associate at the University of Erfurt, specifically within the Faculty of Philosophy and the Department of Media and Communication Studies. She serves as the Study Advisor and Coordinator of the Master's Program Global Communication: Politics and Society, actively shaping academic programs and international collaborations.
Anne Grüne's research focuses on global communication dynamics, particularly examining the interdependence between media systems and lifeworlds in the context of global transformation processes. Her work extends to popular culture's role in democratic change, cross-cultural media analysis, and international communication. She has conducted fieldwork in Egypt and Indonesia, analyzing media systems and communication cultures in global contexts.
Her publications explore mediatization challenges, lifeworld communication, and transcultural media formats. She actively engages with academic communities through her role as Spokesperson of the International and Intercultural Division of the German Communication Association (DGPuK) and co-editor of the scientific book series Internationale und Interkulturelle Kommunikation. Her teaching spans global media theory, qualitative methods, and cross-cultural communication, with field research components in Germany-Indonesia collaboration projects.
Anne Grüne participates in numerous international academic activities, including organizing the 2024 DGPuK Annual Conference Visions for the Good Life: Media and Communication in Tomorrow's Society and serving as a member of the Senate Committee for International Affairs at the University of Erfurt. She has presented research at conferences in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Turkey, and South Africa, addressing global knowledge gaps, media's role in societal transformation, and challenges of internationalizing communication studies.
