Anne Gjelsvik is a Professor of Film Studies at the Department of Art and Media Studies, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She specializes in Norwegian and American contemporary cinema, with a focus on memory culture, ecocriticism, and terrorism representation in media. Her research explores intersections of film aesthetics with societal issues, including post-22 July trauma, climate crisis narratives, and gender representation.
Current projects include the Joachim Trier film analysis monograph Refocus, the NFR-funded 'Uferdig fortid' project on memory culture, and collaborations with international institutions like Linnaeus University and the University of Oslo. She contributes regularly to film journals such as Montages, analyzing Norwegian cinema trends. Gjelsvik also engages in public outreach through film festivals (e.g., Kosmorama, Tromsø IFF) and academic lectures globally.
Her work spans over two decades, with key publications including Cinema Between Media (2018), Bearbeidelser: 22. juli i ord og bilder (2020), and multiple articles on intermediality and film adaptation. She leads NTNU's Environmental Humanities initiatives, examining ecological dimensions in Norwegian cinema.
