Anne-Florence Baroni is a permanent Faculty Member at the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, affiliated with the Faculty of History UFR 09. Her research focuses on Latin Epigraphy, Roman Prosopography, and Roman North Africa, with particular emphasis on municipal administration and trade networks in the ancient Mediterranean.
Her work explores the integration of African elites into the Roman senatorial class, as seen in studies of families like the Arrii Antonini of Cirta. She has contributed to colloquia on figures such as Fronto, a key orator of the Antonine court, analyzing intellectual and political sociability. Her recent publications examine the cultural context of Apuleius' Metamorphoses and the documentation potential of Roman novels for historians.
Baroni's research also addresses epigraphic evidence from sites like Ostia and Cirta, with interests in the mobility of Roman auxiliaries and the dislocation of administrative records. She collaborates with institutions such as the École française de Rome and peers including Michel Christol and Marie-Claire Ferriès.
