Anne Fliotsos is a Professor of Theatre History and Criticism at Purdue University's Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. She holds a PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, an MLS from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a BA from Purdue University, West Lafayette. Her academic career spans decades of research, teaching, and artistic practice in the field of theatre.
Dr. Fliotsos' research primarily focuses on theatre pedagogy, women directors, and 20th century Broadway. Her scholarly work includes five major publications: New Directions in Teaching Theatre Arts (2018), Teaching Theatre Today (2004, 2nd ed. 2009), American Women Stage Directors of the Twentieth Century (2008), Interpreting the Play Script: Contemplation and Analysis (2011), and International Women Stage Directors (2013). She was a founding co-editor of the Peer Reviewed Section of The Journal of Stage Directors and Choreographers and has published essays in numerous scholarly journals including Women in American Musical Theatre, Broadway: An Encyclopedia of Theater and American Culture, and Research in Drama Education.
Her research output reveals consistent focus on women's contributions to theatre history, particularly examining female directors across different eras and cultural contexts. The publications span from historical analysis of early 20th century Broadway to contemporary theatre education practices, demonstrating both depth and breadth in her scholarly inquiry. Her work on American women stage directors represents significant contribution to filling gaps in theatre history documentation.

Dr. Fliotsos maintains an active practice as a director and performer alongside her scholarly work. In 2019, she co-directed an International Telepresence Workshop of Brecht's Life of Galileo with the University of Coventry (UK). Her directing credits at Purdue Theatre include Living Out, Psycho Beach Party, and Anton in Show Business. She also produces and directs one-person productions internationally, including work at the RITU Festival in Liege, Belgium. Her website chronicling 20th century Broadway theatre serves as both a research resource and teaching tool.
