Anne Carlier is a Full Professor at Sorbonne University since 2018, where she serves as Director of the Research Unit 'Sens, Texte, Informatique, Histoire' comprising 57 professors and 130 doctoral students. Previously, she was Full Professor at University of Lille (2008-2018) and Assistant Professor at University of Valenciennes (1993-2008).
Her research focuses on:
- Theories of linguistic change
- Nominal determination
- Historical linguistics of French
- Corpus linguistics
- Comparative linguistics of Romance languages
- Aspect, voice, and auxiliaries
- Morphosyntax
- Grammatical semantics
Dr. Carlier earned her PhD in French linguistics from University of Leuven (Belgium). Her research evolved from synchronic analysis of Modern French to historical linguistics and comparative Romance language studies, with emphasis on building empirical research through corpus development.
Her major awards include:
- 2019: Elected to Belgian Royal Academy of French Language and Literature
- 2022-2026: RIPEC Individual Award
- 2017-2021: (Post)-Doctoral supervision and Research Award
- 2013-2017: Scientific Excellence Award
She has secured substantial research funding including a CNRS Grant (2023-2027) for the 'Language and languages at the crossroad of Disciplines' Research Network (75,000€), CoRaLHis Project (2019-2021, 68,106€), and ANR-DFG Project PaLaFra (2014-2018, 449,919€). She also served as President of the Society for the Diachrony of French and held leadership roles in French research evaluation bodies.
