Annabel Tremlett is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Language and Linguistics at the University of Portsmouth. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from King's College London (2008), focusing on Roma integration in Hungary. Her research emphasizes ethnographic and visual methods to address underrepresentation of marginalized groups, particularly Roma, Gypsy, and Traveller communities. She has secured multiple grants including British Academy and ESRC awards, and fellowships from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Madrid Institute of Advanced Studies.
Her work critiques media and policy representations of minorities, advocating for inclusive practices in social care and public spaces. Key research themes include child participation in research, visual representations' impact on societal integration, and language use in ethnography. Tremlett has contributed to leading journals like The Sociological Review and co-edited Learning and Using Languages in Ethnographic Research. She regularly advises policymakers and delivers keynote addresses globally.
Her current projects explore visual tools for community connection and combating misrepresentations. Tremlett collaborates with international institutions, including the European Commission, and leads initiatives like the Mental Health in Childhood and Education (MICE) Hub and the Sociology and Social Theory Research Group.
