Anna van der Vleuten

Anna van der Vleuten is Professor of Contesting Europeanization at the Department of Political Science, Radboud University, and serves as Vice-Dean of Education at the Nijmegen School of Management. Her academic leadership spans European and international politics with specialized focus on gender, diversity, and normative contestation within EU frameworks.

She earned her doctorate from Radboud University in 2001 following political science studies at the University of Bologna and Radboud University.

Her research investigates the EU as a normative power through critical lenses of gender equality, gender identity, and sexual orientation politics, with particular emphasis on judicial processes and societal contestation. The Gender and Power in Politics and Management research group she leads examines institutional power dynamics shaping gender policies and social norms across political and managerial contexts.

Her 2021 publications reveal converging research trajectories in gender-EU politics, including analysis of healthcare interventions for intersex/transgender communities, handbook-level syntheses of gender in EU institutions, and theoretical frameworks for understanding regional norm formation regarding violence against women.

As Vice-Dean of Education, she oversees academic programs while maintaining active research supervision.
