Dr. Adriejan van Veen is Assistant Professor in Political History at Radboud University Nijmegen, specializing in modern European political history (1780-present). His research examines boundary contestations between political and non-political spheres through historical case studies.
Current projects include:
- History of insemination fraud by fertility doctors (NWO-XS funded)
- Depoliticization processes in Restoration-era Netherlands
- Civil society's role in post-revolutionary political culture
- Candidate selection experiments in 19th century democracies
Methodologically, van Veen employs archival research, discourse analysis, and comparative approaches across Dutch, British and German contexts. He coordinates the Patterns of Political Interaction research group and co-edited 'Depoliticisation before Neoliberalism' (Palgrave 2025).
His doctoral research analyzed independent regulatory authorities in Dutch democracy, establishing frameworks for studying extra-parliamentary governance. Teaching encompasses political theory, modern European history, and historical research methods.
