Anna Ziering serves as Assistant Professor and Interim Program Coordinator for Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Oglethorpe University. She holds a B.A. in American Studies from Barnard College, an M.F.A. in Poetry from Boston University, and both M.A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of Connecticut.
Her research focuses on intersections of race, gender, and sexuality in 20th-century American literature. Key areas include queer of color critique, Black studies, and feminist theory applied to texts by authors like Nella Larsen and Gayl Jones. Recent work examines spatial metaphors in Passing and erotic subversion in Jones’s novels.
Ziering’s publications span literary journals like Arizona Quarterly and The Black Scholar, with upcoming contributions to Sage Publishing’s social problems anthology. She received the 2024 Champion of Inclusive Excellence Faculty Award for her academic and pedagogical contributions.
