Anna Valtonen is an Associate Professor in Strategic Design at Aalto University's School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She concurrently serves as Vice Chancellor at Konstfack in Sweden. Previously, she held key leadership roles including Dean of Aalto's School of Arts, Design and Architecture (2014–2019), Vice President of Art and Creative Practices (2015–2020), and Rector of Umeå Institute of Design. Her academic career includes a doctorate from the former University of Art and Design Helsinki (2007) and postdoctoral research at ESSEC Business School Paris, where she also served as a visiting professor.
Her research focuses on strategic design, organizational change, and innovation ecosystems. Notable projects include the Aalto University Nokia Design Archive, exploring design-driven transformation. Valtonen has authored over 49 publications, emphasizing design's role in societal challenges and institutional evolution. She has received prestigious awards such as the Knight, first class, of the White Rose of Finland (2019) and the Ornamo Golden award (2017).
