Anna Torres-Cacoullos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with the Illinois Global Institute Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Her research bridges literature, film, and media studies, focusing on experimental forms from the late 19th to early 21st centuries.
- Ph.D., M.A., B.A. in Spanish Literature and Comparative Literature from Penn State University
Her work examines intersections of modernism, cinema, and digital humanities, with a current book project on early 20th-century Spanish experimental film-writing practices. She also explores digital archaeology of Spanish film fandom through 1920s film magazines.
Recent publications analyze cinematic methodologies in modernist literature, gender in Almodóvar’s films, and philosophical dimensions of avant-garde texts. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on transatlantic metafiction, Spanish avant-garde cinema, and identity geographies in Latina/o literature.
