Anna Tapola is a Project Researcher at the Department of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Åbo Akademi University. Her research investigates cognitive and affective dynamics in mathematics education, focusing on school beginners and fourth-grade students' performance.
Her primary research interests include mathematics education, educational psychology, and cognitive psychology, with specialized focus on math anxiety, working memory, arithmetic fluency, and ability self-concept. She examines how these factors interact to influence mathematical development in early education.
Recent publications reveal consistent themes in developmental trajectories of math self-concept and the mediating role of working memory between affective states (anxiety, interest) and arithmetic performance. Her work employs advanced methodologies like latent growth curve modeling to analyze longitudinal data.
Tapola serves as a Co-Investigator on the Research Council of Finland-funded project "iFeelMath" (2022-2026), which explores situational dynamics of math anxiety across international collaborations. The project involves researchers from multiple institutions analyzing large-scale datasets on student performance.
