Dr Anna Sturrock is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Life Sciences, University of Essex, specializing in aquatic ecology with a focus on fish migration patterns, conservation, and climate change impacts. Her research utilizes otolith microchemistry and biochronology to study habitat needs and physiological responses of vulnerable species.
- Education: PhD (University of Southampton, 2012), MSc (University of Otago, 2008), BSc Hons (University of Edinburgh, 2004)
Her research integrates isotope ecology, biomineral chemistry, and genetic tools to analyze fish resilience under anthropogenic and environmental stressors. Recent projects examine salmonid biocomplexity, marine functional connectivity, and managed foodscapes for floodplain ecosystems.
Between 2020-2025, her publications highlight applications of otolith analysis, climate-driven mismatches in fisheries, and habitat restoration frameworks. Collaborative grants from institutions like the Atlantic Salmon Trust and Medical Research Council support her work.
Dr Sturrock supervises multiple PhD and MSc students while teaching courses on marine vertebrates, fisheries ecology, and coral reef research skills. She actively contributes to international conferences on otolith chemistry and marine connectivity.
