Dr hab. Anna Strobin serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Deputy Head at the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology within the Faculty of History at the University of Gdańsk. Her research focuses on Iron Age cultures of Pomerania, particularly the Oksywie, Wielbark, and Przeworsk cultures, with significant contributions to understanding funerary practices and material culture.
Her academic foundation includes:
- 1993-1998: Master's degree in Archaeology from the University of Lodz, completed with a thesis on "Double cremation burials in the Przeworsk culture" under Prof. M. Mączyńska
- 1998-2000: Doctoral studies at the Institute of Archaeology, University of Lodz
Strobin's research spans Pre-Roman/Roman Iron Age chronology, Pomeranian archaeology, and specialized analysis of ceramic artifacts and cultural interactions. She examines how Oksywie, Wielbark, and Jastorf cultures evolved through Roman influences, with particular attention to burial customs and artifact typology. Her methodological approach combines field excavation with rigorous material analysis.
Recent publications (2021-2025) reveal persistent focus on Brzyno and Czarnowko sites, exploring multicultural cemeteries from pre-Roman through Migration periods. Key trends include detailed studies of belt hooks, pottery decoration techniques, and skeletal remains, demonstrating how material culture reflects cultural exchange between Germanic, Celtic, and Roman spheres in Pomerania.
While no formal scientific awards are documented in available sources, her scholarly impact is evident through her 2011 monograph Ceramika naczyniowa kultury oksywskiej (Pottery of the Oksywie Culture) and consistent publications in major journals like Wiadomości Archeologiczne.
Strobin actively participates in archaeological fieldwork and institutional leadership as Deputy Head. Her work with the Monumenta Archaeologica Barbarica Foundation supports regional research initiatives, though specific grant funding isn't detailed in public records. She has supervised no documented students but contributes to academic community through editorial work.
The researcher maintains strong ties to ongoing excavations at Brzyno (2011-2016) and other Pomeranian sites, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to analyze burial grounds and settlement structures from the Iron Age.
