Anna Showers-Cruser

Anna Showers-Cruser (they/them) is an Adjunct Professor in the Art Foundation Department at VCUarts, Virginia Commonwealth University. Their artistic practice explores object-making traditions to challenge hegemonic binaries through hybrid forms that incorporate humor, herbalism, and examinations of mental illness's materiality.

Recent exhibitions include solo shows Soft Hardwares at Monaco Gallery in St. Louis and the commissioned installation Aerial Parts for Buddy at the Chicago Cultural Center (2021). They were featured in the South Bend Museum of Art's Biennial 31 and are a 3Arts grant recipient and former HATCH artist-in-residence at Chicago Artists Coalition.

Showers-Cruser holds an MFA from the University of Chicago and BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, additionally teaching in Contemporary Practices at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They received the Gerald Donato Award in Painting + Printmaking from VCU's Summer Studio Program (2013).
