Prof. Anna Possner is a Professor and research group leader at the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt. Her work focuses on cloud physics and the impacts of human activity on climate systems, particularly studying low-lying stratocumulus clouds and their role in the Earth's radiative budget. She investigates how these clouds modulate surface temperatures through radiative effects in polar and sub-polar regions.
Her research also explores geophysical limits to wind energy and the climatic impacts of large-scale offshore wind farms. She has conducted studies on aerosol-cloud interactions, including the effects of ice-nucleating particles in Antarctica and the Amazon's upper troposphere. Key projects include numerical simulations of cloud dynamics and contributions to the CAPRICORN field campaign.
Prof. Possner leads a research team addressing pressing issues like marine cloud brightening and the viability of geoengineering solutions to climate change. She actively engages in interdisciplinary collaborations, including evaluations of aerosol radiative forcing and climate modeling advancements at kilometer scales.
Her work highlights the need for precise climate models to understand anthropogenic influences on cloud systems and their feedback mechanisms. Ongoing research includes exploring organizational regimes in Southern Ocean stratocumulus clouds and the interplay of primary and secondary ice production in Arctic environments.
