Anna Phan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta. Her research focuses on identifying and understanding genes that limit learning and memory processes, particularly using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism. Key areas of study include memory suppressor genes like Stromalin and their implications for human disorders such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease. She explores synaptic mechanisms, dopamine signaling pathways, and the interplay between genetic constraints and neuroplasticity.
Her teaching responsibilities include courses on Genetic Analysis (GENET 305) and Ethological Mechanisms (ZOOL 370).
