Anna Minton

Dr Anna Minton is a Reader in Architecture at the University of East London, based in the Department of Architecture & Visual Arts within the School of Architecture Computing and Engineering. She serves as Programme Leader for the MRes Architecture program, bridging architectural practice, urban democracy, and critical social analysis in contemporary city landscapes.

Her research centers on the privatisation of public space, security and surveillance systems, financialisation of land/housing markets, gentrification dynamics, and the global housing crisis. Minton critically examines how capital flows and policy decisions reshape urban environments, particularly in London, as demonstrated in her influential books Ground Control (2009) and Big Capital (2017), with ongoing work on urban sterilisation culminating in a 2026 Penguin publication.
