Anna Merkel

Anna Merkel is a researcher at the Chair of Paleoenvironment within the GeoCenter Northern Bavaria at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg. Her work focuses on carbonate sedimentology, microfacies analysis, and Early Jurassic climate studies. She is based at Loewenichstrasse 28, Erlangen, and can be contacted at anna.merkel@fau.de.

Anna Merkel’s research investigates paleoclimatic indicators in geological formations, particularly through microfacies analysis of carbonate sediments. Her work contributes to understanding climate fluctuations during the Early Jurassic period.

In her 2023 publication, Merkel examined glendonite-bearing concretions in South Germany to identify evidence of significant cooling in the European epicontinental sea during the Pliensbachian stage. This aligns with broader studies in paleoclimatology and sedimentology.
