Anna Maria Johnson is a Lecturer in the School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication at James Madison University since 2016. Her work bridges writing pedagogy, environmental communication, and creative non-fiction. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Vermont College of Fine Arts) and a B.A. in Studio Art (Houghton College).
Her professional focuses include rhetorical reading practices, collaborative writing strategies, and environmental/place-based writing. She has designed instructional materials for environmental organizations and contributed to publications like Pedagogy and Ruminate Magazine.
Her recent publications explore topics ranging from commonplace books in first-year writing classrooms to human rights in contemporary Africa. She collaborates across disciplines, notably with lichenologists and educators, producing works that merge scientific knowledge with narrative techniques.
