Anna-Maria Hällgren is an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Art History at the Department of Creative Studies (Teacher Education) at Umeå University. Holding a research qualification as a Docent, she focuses on visual culture studies and environmental humanities, with a particular emphasis on 19th-20th century cultural transitions. Her work bridges academia and public discourse through scholarly publications and media contributions.
Education:
- PhD in Art History from Stockholm University (2013)
- Postdoctoral research at Stockholm University
Research Interests: Hällgren explores intersections of art, environment, and cultural history. Her current project Unearthing Aesthetics: Natural Resources, Art, and Visual Culture, funded by the Swedish Research Council, investigates materiality and ecology in art. She co-edited Ekologisk konstvetenskap (2024) and Visuella kulturstudier, advancing methodologies in visual culture and environmental art science.
