Anna Liddle

Anna Liddle is a Lecturer in Education at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the Sheffield Institute of Education within the College of Social Sciences and Arts. Her research focuses on peace, citizenship, and political education, exploring how education contributes to social justice and democracy. She holds a BA (Hons), MA, and PhD, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Research Interests: Dr. Liddle’s work examines societal issues such as war remembrance practices, deliberative classroom dynamics, and character education implementation. Her PhD explored how schools teach peace and war, while her postdoctoral projects like Speaking Citizens and Deliberative Classroom investigated youth political communication and democratic engagement. She currently collaborates with the Association for Citizenship Teaching to enhance citizenship education for trainee teachers.

Teaching: She teaches on BA (Hons) programs in Education Studies, Education with Psychology and Counselling, and Education with Autism, Disability and SEN. She leads modules like International Perspectives on Education, supervises research projects, and advises students across all undergraduate levels. Her teaching emphasizes critical thinking and societal impacts of education.

Professional Activities: She serves on the national council of the Association for Citizenship Teaching and editorial board of their journal Teaching Citizenship. Her research is conducted within the Social and Economic Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University.
