معرفی
Anna Karlsson is a Professor and Specialist Physician at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Karolinska Institutet. She leads the Anna Karlsson Research Group, focusing on nucleoside analogues, mitochondrial DNA synthesis, and their applications in treating viral diseases and cancer. Her work explores drug activation mechanisms and side effects linked to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Education: Docent (1996) at Karolinska Institutet.
Research Interests: Investigates nucleoside analogues' pharmacology, including their activation pathways and impacts on mitochondrial function. Key areas include HIV therapy optimization, cancer metabolism, and genetic disorders caused by mitochondrial DNA defects. Techniques used include cell and molecular biology, transgenic models, and enzyme assays.
Publications highlight metabolic adaptations, enzyme regulation, and therapeutic efficacy in preclinical models.
Teaching: Responsible for microbiology courses, virology lectures, and curriculum development in medical programs. Supervises project work in the BMA program.
Labs/Teams: Directs her research group, collaborating on projects involving nucleoside kinase expression, mitochondrial dysfunction, and drug development.
