معرفی
Anna-Karin Pernestig is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Bioscience, University of Skövde, and a research leader for the Infection Biology group at the Systems Biology Research Centre. She also serves as project leader for the Elite Sports Friendly University initiative and coordinates training courses in biosciences.
She earned a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Gothenburg (1997) and a Doctorate from the Karolinska Institute (2003). Her research focuses on sepsis diagnostics, combining biomarker discovery with next-generation sequencing (NGS) to improve early identification of pathogens and systemic inflammation.
Her publications span systems biology, clinical microbiology, and digital health. Key trends include NGS-based bacterial genotyping, multimarker panels for sepsis, and bioinformatics workflows for rapid diagnostics. Collaborations involve Unilabs, Skaraborg Hospital, and Clinical Genomics at SciLifeLab.
Research Projects:
- AI-Driven Precision Medicine (AID-PM) (2025–2033): Developing AI-based diagnostics for sepsis.
- miRSeps (2020–2023): Improving sepsis diagnostics via biomarker panels.
- BioMine (2017–2022): Data-mining for biomarker discovery.
- SMARTDIAGNOS (2016–2020): Rapid sepsis detection.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Infection Biology group at the Systems Biology Research Centre, collaborating internationally on sepsis and bacterial genomics.
