Anna Kajander is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of History and Ethnology, Faculty of Humanities, University of Jyväskylä. Her academic work centers on ethnological approaches to material culture with particular emphasis on affective dimensions of everyday objects and domestic spaces.
Her research interests span affective materiality, autobiographical approaches to object studies, and digital transformations in ethnographic methods. Key focus areas include:
- Emotional and sensory experiences of home environments
- Material memory and object biographies
- Digital humanities methodologies
- Pandemic-era domestic material culture
Recent publications demonstrate consistent engagement with atmospheres of home, sensory experiences of everyday objects, and AI integration in ethnological research. Her 2024-2025 works particularly highlight the intersection of digital tools and affective materiality studies.
Kajander actively contributes to major research initiatives including the Sensory and Material Memories project (Research Council of Finland, 2020-2024) and the Finnish Digital Citizen Science Center (funded by Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation, 2024-2028).
