Anna I. Krylov is the USC Associates Chair in Natural Sciences and Professor of Chemistry at the University of Southern California's Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1996) and an M.Sc. from Moscow State University (1990). Her research focuses on theoretical methods and computational tools for studying open-shell and electronically excited species, with applications in bioimaging, solar energy, quantum information science, and spectroscopy. She leads the iOpenShell Laboratory, which collaborates with experimentalists and develops advanced computational codes.
Education:
- Ph.D., 1996, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel
- M.Sc., 1990, Moscow State University, Russia
Research Interests:
Her group pioneers theoretical frameworks to model electronic excited states and open-shell systems. Key areas include computational spectroscopy, quantum chemistry for solar energy materials, and plasma chemistry. The group frequently publishes in high-impact journals and maintains active collaborations with experimental groups worldwide.
Funding & Recognition:
Research is supported by the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Army Research Laboratory, and USC Dornsife College. Her team's notable achievements include recent awards for students Carson Baker (Wittig Research Award) and Naynthara Jayadev (poster prize and Dulligan's Graduate Student Award).
Group Activities:
- Weekly Blitz meetings: Mondays 10:00-11:00 AM Pacific (Zoom)
- Group seminar: Wednesdays at noon (hybrid: SSC 604 and Zoom)
Labs & Teams:
The iOpenShell Lab hosts researchers dedicated to advancing electronic structure theory. Alumni include Prof. Lyudmila Slipchenko, recipient of the 2025 USC Chemistry Alumni Award.
