Anna Holzer-Kawalko

Dr. Anna Holzer-Kawalko is a research associate at the Leo Baeck Institute in Jerusalem and an affiliated researcher at the Dubnow Institute's project »The Material and Intellectual Legacy of the Higher Institute for Jewish Studies in Berlin«. She earned her PhD in Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2022.

Her research focuses on cultural restitution, German-Jewish heritage, and postwar Europe, particularly the transfer and preservation of Jewish cultural property after WWII. Recent work explores provenance research, postwar cultural dynamics, and intellectual exile through case studies like Hermann Cohen's legacy in Jerusalem and Ernst Grumach's experiences. She collaborates with institutions including the Dubnow Institute and Hebrew University.

Her projects, such as mapping the revival of the Jewish National and University Library's collections, highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining archival studies, intellectual history, and Holocaust research.
