Anna Durnová is a Professor of Political Sociology at the University of Vienna's Department of Sociology, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences. She leads the CIDAPE project (Horizon Europe, 2024–2027), focusing on climate, inequality, and democratic action through political emotions. Her research explores tensions between citizens and institutions in democratic societies, emphasizing emotions, feminist sociology, and interpretive methods. A recipient of the 2024 Mattei Dogan Prize, she also holds editorial roles at Policy & Politics and Critical Policy Studies, and is a Yale University Center for Cultural Sociology Fellow.
Her research philosophy integrates public engagement, evident in her contributions to media debates on politics, society, and her children’s book Proč existují sprostá slova když se nesmějí používat (2022). Her work bridges academic and applied contexts, including roles at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Charles University, and international collaborations. Key achievements include books on emotions in politics and policy analysis, with a focus on marginalised perspectives and institutional critique.
Anna’s leadership extends to mentoring a diverse team of researchers, including postdocs and doctoral candidates exploring topics like queer-feminist approaches, trans healthcare, and global health governance. She actively participates in interdisciplinary projects addressing climate change, inequality, and democratic resilience, leveraging sociological insights to inform policy and public discourse.
