Anna Chaussee is a Senior Lecturer in Forensics at the University of Winchester, directing its Cold Case Unit, which re-examines unidentified remains and missing persons cases. She holds a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is a Professional Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences (accredited). Her research focuses on clandestine depositions, forensic archaeology interpretations, and missing persons investigations. Chaussee has contributed to police training for clandestine deposition recovery and consults for Kenyon International. She previously taught at Glyndwr University, University of Exeter, and others, winning teaching awards.
Education: BA (Hons) Archaeology & Ancient History (University of Exeter, 2007); MSc Forensic Archaeology & Anthropology (Cranfield University, 2008); Current PhD candidate in clandestine deposition taxonomy.
Research emphasizes decolonizing forensic curricula, plastic material culture in forensics, and the intersection of forensic science with human rights. She has advised on documentaries and scripts for film/TV, bridging academic and public engagement.
Awards include teaching excellence accolades and her role as an Independent Monitoring Board member for the Ministry of Justice (2020).
