Dr. Anna Calori is a Lecturer in Contemporary Economic History at the University of Glasgow, focusing on the global economic and social history of the Cold War era, Eastern Europe, and international development. Her research explores state socialism in the Western Balkans/Former Yugoslavia, Cuba, and Zambia, emphasizing transnational connections and postcolonial contexts. She co-leads the YU-ZAM project (funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF), examining a Yugoslav workplace in postcolonial Zambia.
Education & Career: She earned her PhD at the University of Exeter and held fellowships at institutions including the University of Vienna (Marie Curie COFUND REWIRE Fellow, 2021–2024), Leipzig, Jena, Konstanz, and the ILO in Geneva.
Research Interests: Cold War economic history, non-aligned movements, socialist enterprises, labor history, and the legacy of state socialism. Her work bridges global and local perspectives, analyzing how socialist economies engaged with transnational capitalism and decolonization.
Teaching: She teaches courses on globalization, socialism’s global history, and the global economy. Her PGT Globalization and the Nation-State and Socialism: A Global History reflect her interdisciplinary approach.
Awards & Grants: Principal Investigator of the Marie Curie COFUND-funded REWIRE project and co-investigator of the FWF-funded YU-ZAM. Her research has been supported by grants totaling over €200,000.
Collaborations: Active in international projects, including co-editing Between East and South: Spaces of Interaction in the Globalizing Economy of the Cold War (2019). She advises PhD candidates on topics aligning with her research, such as Albert Gil Gil (co-supervised).
