Anna Breidenbach

Anna Breidenbach is a Researcher in the Department of History at the European University Institute (EUI). Her research focuses on the Politics of Tourism in Central Europe (1908–1939), examining legal and political dimensions of hospitality and mobility. Supervised by Benno Bastian Gammerl, her work interrogates how tourism intersected with national policies and transnational dynamics during this period. A member of the 2023 cohort, she holds German nationality and contributes to historical studies of modernity and state practices.

Research Interests: Her thematic focus includes legal frameworks governing transnational guests, the socio-political role of tourism, and the interplay between state authority and cultural exchange in interwar Europe. Methodologically, her work bridges political and cultural history.

Academic Supervision: She is advised by Benno Bastian Gammerl (primary supervisor) and Emmanuel Mourlon-Druol (second reader), both prominent historians at EUI.
