Anna Bedford

Anna Bedford is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of the Accounting Discipline Group at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Her research focuses on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and innovation, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and media coverage by Forbes and SMH. She has held visiting scholar positions at MIT, NYU, and Bocconi University.

Anna serves as Program Director for the Master of Professional Accounting and has been recognized as a top lecturer, winning multiple teaching awards including the Postgraduate Business Prize for Excellence in Teaching (2018, 2019) and Undergraduate Business Prize (2011, 2019). She is Treasurer of the Financial Research Network (FIRN) and a board member of ActivateUTS.

Her research explores executive compensation, audit committee dynamics, and the economic consequences of corporate transactions. Recent work examines CEO pay cuts during crises, audit partner influence in M&A, and innovation metrics in Australia. Anna holds a PhD and First Class Honours in Accounting and Finance from UTS, alongside GAICD certification.

Her funded projects include studies on tax avoidance by multinationals, executive remuneration linkages, and the role of 'near miss' reporting in expert reviews. Anna’s teaching spans corporate accounting and business combinations, with a focus on fostering student engagement through simulations and problem-based learning.
