Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Researchمعرفی
Anna Arutyunyan is a Research Fellow in the Lehner Group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, specializing in computational biology with a focus on modeling genetic interactions (epistasis) in amyloid fibrils formation and RNA splicing. Her work bridges synthetic biology, genomics, and biophysical modeling to decode complex biological systems.
Her academic foundation includes a BSc in Applied Physics and Mathematics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), where she developed CRISPR/Cas9-based models for non-small cell lung carcinoma in the Genome Engineering Laboratory. She further honed her expertise through internships at MIPT's Volchkov Lab and Kyoto University's Yoshimura Lab under the Amgen Scholars Program. Driven by immunology-reproduction intersections, she pursued her PhD at the Wellcome Sanger Institute with the Vento-Tormo Group, creating a cellular map of the maternal-fetal interface using spatial transcriptomics and single-nucleus RNA sequencing.
Her research integrates multi-omics data analysis and algorithm development, exemplified by stOrder—a computational framework for inferring cellular differentiation trajectories. Key interests span Computational Biology, Genomics, Synthetic Biology, Immunology, and Reproductive Biology, with emphasis on high-throughput genomic data interpretation and disease modeling.
Awarded the Wellcome Trust 4-Year PhD Studentship and UMNIK grant for innovative projects, she demonstrates exceptional promise in translational genomics. Current work in the Lehner Group advances epistasis modeling, though no student supervision or independent grants beyond fellowship support are documented. Her trajectory highlights convergence of computational innovation and biological discovery in genomics-driven medicine.
