Anna Accettola is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics at Hamilton College, appointed in 2023. Her research centers on economic and social dynamics in the ancient Greek world, with specialization in material culture and numismatics.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Los Angeles
- M.A. in Greek and Roman Studies from Brandeis University
- B.A. in History and Classical Studies from the University of the Pacific
Professor Accettola's work examines economic inclusion/exclusion of non-Greek foreigners in Greek city-states during the late Classical and Hellenistic periods. She analyzes numismatic evidence to reconstruct trade mechanisms between Greek states and the Nabataean Kingdom, while also investigating gendered portrayals of foreign women in ancient Greek drama. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges economic history, archaeology, and cultural studies.
Her forthcoming publications demonstrate expertise in ancient coinage analysis, Nabataean-Greek relations, and cross-cultural imitative practices. Key research threads include political symbolism in Republican coinage, epigraphic evidence for proxenia institutions, and metallurgical studies of Sabaean imitations.
