Federico Carbone is a Researcher in the Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences at the University of Salerno. He is based at the Fisciano Campus, Building B, Second Floor, Room 066. His primary research focus is on numismatics, particularly the study of ancient Greek and Roman coins from sites in Italy and Crete.

Carbone's scholarly work examines coin production rhythms, monetary policies, and the integration of different coinage systems in the ancient Mediterranean world. His research primarily focuses on the numismatic evidence from ancient sites such as Paestum, Velia, Pompeii, and Cretan cities like Gortyna and Phaistos. He has made significant contributions to understanding the chronology and circulation of coins in Southern Italy and Crete during the Hellenistic period and early Roman era. His recent publications demonstrate an increasing integration of digital tools and archaeometric analyses in numismatic research, including statistical models, digital documentation systems, and lead isotope analysis for provenance studies.

Carbone has authored numerous publications including the 2022 monograph 'Festòs I. La moneta. Produzione, seriazione e cronologia' and the 2024 'Local Coinages in a Roman World,' which catalogs the Richard B. Witschonke Collection of Coinage in the Early Roman Provinces. He has also co-edited the 2020 volume 'Monetary and Social Aspects of Hellenistic Crete.' His work bridges traditional numismatic analysis with modern scientific and digital approaches, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of ancient economic systems and cultural interactions in the Mediterranean world.
